I created a large song board and attached a spot to the ladybug as we counted. I had the kids count on their fingers as well. The ladybug image is from My Cute Graphics.

Songs & Fingerplays

Five Magic Rabbits
Courtesy of Storytime Katie

For our version we acted out each movement. It went like this:

Five magic rabbits in a tall black hat
(Place hand above your head)
Along comes a magician who gives each one a pat
(Pat your head)
He waves his magic wand high above their ears,
(Pretend to wave a wand)
Abracadabra, poof!
One rabbit disappears
(Continue to count down)

Below is a sample of the cutouts I used on our song board.

Poof!

Every time we said "Poof" the kids opened their hands and threw out their arms. We also acted out each movement.

Activity

Hat Trick
Inspired by Storytime Katie

I had the kids say "ABRACADABRA!"every time I reached into the hat.

Craft

Magic Wand

Supplies:
  • Yellow card stock
  • Star Ellison stamp
  • Ribbon
  • Large craft sticks
  • Sequins
  • Gemstones
  • School Glue
I put a star on each side of the stick. I used a glue stick to glue the stars onto the stick. This worked better than the school glue. The school glue was used to decorate the stars.
